Mônica Salmaso (born February 27, 1971 in São Paulo ) is a Brazilian singer.

Life

Salmaso began her musical career in 1989 as a singer in the musical comedy O Concílio do Amor under the direction of Gabriel Villela . In the following years, in addition to her music studies, she performed with musicians such as Edu Lobo , Eduardo Gudin , José Miguel Wisnik , Marlui Miranda , Guinga , Nelson Ayres and the Jazz Symphonic Orchestra of São Paulo . She was one of the soloists on the album Canções de Ninar by Paulo Tatit and Sandra Peres , which was awarded the Prêmio Sharp - 95 as the best album for children.

In 1995 Salmaso released her first own album Afro Sambas with guitarist Paulo Bellinati . With the album she was nominated for the Prêmio Sharp - 07 as the best singer of Brazilian popular music. In 1998 the album Trampolim followed with Naná Vasconcelos , Teco Cardoso and Paulo Bellinati.

In 1999 she won the nationwide Visa Mastercard Eldorado Prize for the best singer in Brazil, in which 1200 competitors had participated. In the same year Rodolfo Stroeter produced the album Voadeira with her (with Marcos Suzano , Benjamim Taubkin , Nailor Proveta , Toninho Ferragutti and Paulo Bellinati), which was rated by the press as one of the best Brazilian pop albums of the year. In the same year, the Associação Paulista dos Críticos de Arte (APCA) honored her as the best singer in Brazil.

Since 1998 she has performed with the twelve-member Orquestra Popular de Câmara . In the film Vinícius by Miguel Faria Jr. about the life of Vinícius de Moraes, she worked as a singer. In 2004 her album Iaiá was released . On the album Carioca by Chico Buarque she sang his song Imagina . On her fifth album Noites de gala, samba na rua (with the quintet Pau Brasil ) she sang songs by Buarque. In 2008 the album Nem 1 Ai followed .
