There are three villages with the name Vahlberg, which are located on the Asse , a mountain range in the Wolfenbüttel district. In addition to Mönchevahlberg, these are Klein Vahlberg and Groß Vahlberg , which together with the village of Berklingen form the municipality of Vahlberg .

There is also the small district Mönchevahlberg-Zuckerfabrik , which is halfway to Dettum and was incorporated with Mönchevahlberg to Dettum. The settlement, where only a few structural remains are reminiscent of the former sugar factory, is better known to railway travelers as the Dettum stop on the Wolfenbüttel – Schöppenstedt railway line .

The Benedictine monastery of St. Aegidien in Braunschweig owned a farm in the early days of Mönchevahlberg . This is probably where the village name comes from.

"Fal", the origin of the place names, means "earth-colored". In 1528 the village was first documented as "Moneke Vahlberge".

history

It is believed that Mönchevahlberg was founded by farmers and hunters. The place was first mentioned in 1134.

After the Reformation, the monks' farmyard was lent to the University of Helmstedt and most of the income generated therefrom went to the university's student barracks since 1576.

The former Meierhof in the village has a three-story keep with high gables and courtyard buildings. Court buildings are dated 1463 and 1760 by inscriptions. Efforts are being made to add the courtyard to the list of listed buildings.

Around 1800 the village had a church and school, five farms, six kothöfe and 14 fire places.

On March 1, 1974 Mönchevahlberg was incorporated into the community of Dettum.

today

Mönchevahlberg has three clubs, the Mönchevahlberger Friends and Sponsors' Association (MÖFF), a shooting club with a shooting house and the sponsoring club of the Mönchevahlberg / Weferlingen volunteer fire department. A Christmas market has been held every year since 2010. In addition, on May 1, 2016, the annual soccer tournament with selected teams from surrounding towns took place for the tenth time.

Mönchevahlberg belongs to the Evangelical Lutheran parish of Dettum, Bansleben , Hachum and Weferlingen .
