Münster model: View of the overall model

The non-profit association Münster Modell e. V. sees itself as a building culture forum in Münster / Westphalia . In addition to events, the measures include the creation of a city model - in cooperation between the city, citizens, institutions and companies.

initiative

Münster model: the old town in detail

The Münster Modell e. V. was founded on May 18, 2006 on the initiative of various partners, including the City of Münster - Office for Urban Development, Urban Planning and Transport Planning, Bund Deutscher Architekten BDA, Bund Deutscher Baumeister BDB, MSA I Münster School of Architecture, Münster Economic Development Agency and a number of committed individuals founded. It now has over 100 members and 60 sponsors, including well-known architects and personalities, institutions and companies associated with architecture .

An important goal of the non-profit initiative is the construction of a large city model on a scale of 1: 500 and its establishment as a planning tool in the processes of urban development: for architects and builders, politics and administration, citizens and visitors or schoolchildren and students.

The Münster model e. V. is financed by contributions from the city of Münster as well as donations from private individuals, institutions and companies.

For its tenth anniversary in 2016, the initiative presented a model that is now over 85 percent completed.

The association's board consists of the chairman Stefan Rethfeld (architect and journalist), the deputy chairman Christopher Festersen (head of urban planning office, City of Münster), the treasurer Ricardo Wintzer (lawyer) and Berthold Ellertmann (architect), Maria Hilger (architect), Dr. Andreas Neumann (lawyer) and Titus Wiehagen (architect). The advisory board consists of Robin Denstorff (City Planning Officer, City of Münster), Norbert Grosse Hündfeld (attorney and notary a. D.), Dr. Holger Mertens (State Conservator, LWL Westfalen-Lippe), Jörn Möltgen (Chair of the Planning Committee, City of Münster), Dagmar Grote (Chair of the Advisory Board for Urban Design, City of Münster), Prof. Joachim Schultz-Granberg (Urban Development, MSA I Münster School of Architecture) and Bernadette Spinnen (Head of Münster Marketing, City of Münster).

City model

Münster model: place for lectures and discussions

The city model ("Münster model") shows the architecture of the city in a 500-fold reduction. It is being built panel by panel and will in future represent the entire city center up to the ring road: from Mühlenhof to Zentrum Nord, from the Leonardo campus to the port. In this state it will cover an area of 8 × 8 meters. Most of the buildings are shown in white. Striking, historical buildings are highlighted in dark pear wood and current buildings from 2000 in light lime wood. Depending on the type of development, the panels are labor-intensive differently. According to the current status, a square meter model costs between 4,500 euros and 10,000 euros. The points at which the model grows depends on the urgency for current discussions and the commitment of the donors. Various model workshops are commissioned to build the Münster model at the same time.

Place of issue

Münster model: place for jury meetings

The growing Münster model does not yet have a fixed location. In the past it could only be seen temporarily in different places. Since 2006, the city model has been shown in 24 presentations at 15 different locations in the city center:
