Miraz Bezar

Miraz Bezar (* 1971 in Ankara , Turkey ) is a Berlin filmmaker and author of Kurdish origin.

Bezar studied directing at the German Film and Television Academy Berlin (DFFB) and initially made a name for himself in Germany with short films. His film "Berivan" based on his own script was shown in the competition in Oberhausen . “Fern” won the coveted IFSAK short film award in Istanbul and “Freiwild” was shown in the competition at the World Film Festival in Montreal. His last short film "Not too early, not too late" premiered at the Cannes Film Festival.

In the theater sector, Bezar has been working together with the Ballhaus Naunynstrasse Theater and the Maxim Gorki Theater since 2008 . In 2009 he adapted the novel “The fairy tale of the last thought” based on Edgar Hilsenrath and in 2012 the play “§301 - The Insulted Nation” about the murder of the Armenian journalist Hrant Dink. In 2014 the comedy “Vorhaut” followed, which has been playing in front of a sold-out house since its premiere and is currently being adapted for the cinema. In addition to directing, Bezar was also responsible as an author.

In 2009 Bezar produced his first feature film Min dît (2009), which celebrated its world premiere on September 22, 2009 at the San Sebastián Film Festival. There the film ran in the competition for the New Directors Award [4] and won the Gaztea Youth Award. [5] In the subsequent competition at the Ghent Film Festival, he received the Special Jury Award. [6] The German premiere took place at the 17th Hamburg Film Festival, where the film was announced under the title Before my Eyes. [7] Here he received the Young Talent Award. It was also the first Kurdish-language film to be invited to the national competition of the Antalya Altın Portakal Film Festivali, the most important film festival in Turkey. Here Min Dît received an award for the best screenplay. Min dît won the audience award at the Turkey / Germany film festival in Nuremberg in March . In addition, the actress Senay Orak was awarded a sponsorship award. He was awarded three prizes at the Istanbul Film Festival. For best director, best actress (Senay Orak) and best music (Mustafa Biber). Most recently, the film won the main prize at the Mediterranean Film Festival in Rome and two main prizes at the Poznań Film Festival. Fatih Akın acted as co-producer of the Kurdish and Turkish language drama . In addition, Miraz Bezar was nominated for the 2011 German Film Prize as Min dît's screenwriter .

In 2015 Miraz Bezar received a scholarship from the Tarabya Culture Academy in Istanbul.
