M. Matin

MA Matin (born December 1, 1937 in Pabna , Rajshahi , Bengal , today: Bangladesh ; † June 13, 2012 in Rajarbakh, Dhaka , Bangladesh) was a politician from Bangladesh.

Life

Matin studied medicine at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital and then worked between 1964 and 1967 at the Royal Eye Hospital , King's College Hospital, and most recently at St. Alban's City Hospital . After his return, he taught from 1967 to 1972 as an Associate Professor and then as Professor and Head of the Department of Ophthalmology at the Institute of Postgraduate Medicine and Research in Dhaka , today's Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University . In addition, since 1976 he has been an advisory ophthalmologist with the rank of honorary colonel at the Joint Military Hospital of the Bangladesh Armed Forces in Dhaka.

In 1979 Matin became a member of the National Assembly ( Jatiya Sangsad ) for the first time and was a member of it until 1989. In 1979 he was appointed Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism by Prime Minister Shah Azizur Rahman in his government, where he was subsequently Minister for Youth Development and Minister for Health and Population Growth in 1981, before being Minister of the Interior from 1981 to 1982. In the government of Prime Minister Ataur Rahman Khan , he took over the post of Minister of Commerce in 1984 and then Minister of Public Works in 1985. In the cabinet of Prime Minister Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury formed as a result, he served between 1986 and 1988 as Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister. In the government of Prime Minister Moudud Ahmed from 1988 to 1989 he was again Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior as well as Minister for Family Planning.

Matin also served as Secretary General and President of the Bangladesh Ophthalmological Society , President of the Bangladesh Medical Services Association , Vice Chairman of the Bangladesh Medical Research Council and Vice President of the College of Physicians and Surgeons (Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons) . In 2001 he became a member of the National Assembly again.
