MEDA Pharma is a pharmaceutical company based in Solna (Sweden). The company is active in 50 countries with its own subsidiaries. The largest shareholder is the private shipping company Stena Sessan with almost 23 percent.

The company was founded by the pharmaceutical wholesaler ADA , which is now part of Phoenix Pharmahandel . Together with today's Pfizer subsidiary Pharmacia, Meda and ADA were merged in 1989 with the state-owned food company Procordia and the car company Volvo. Two years later, Meda was removed from the conglomerate, and the IPO followed in 1995. In 1999 the company merged with the then leading re-importer Cross Pharma.

At the end of 2013, Jörg-Thomas Dierks took over from the long-standing company boss Anders Lönner at the top.

A German branch is located in Bad Homburg and goes back to a company founded in 1920 by the pharmacists Adolf Rüdiger and Arthur Abelmann, while another emerged from a successor company to the Dresden pharmaceuticals plant in Radebeul .

In 2005 Troponwerke in Cologne was taken over.

In 2008, the group acquired divisions of the Canadian pharmaceutical company Valeant in Western and Eastern Europe for 392 million US dollars.

In 2014, Meda bought the Italian manufacturer Rottapharm Madaus for 2.3 billion euros .

On July 20, 2016, the EU cleared Mylan's acquisition of MEDA .
