The MOS Technology 6507 is an 8-bit - microprocessor , which by the company MOS Technology was developed.

Technical details

The 6507 is a derivative of the MOS Technology 6502 microprocessor . The same silicon layer as for the 6502 was used to manufacture the 6507. Only after the final metallization did the dies of the two microprocessors differ . With the 6507 only 13 address lines are led out and some other signals are also missing. The DIL - housing of the 6507 can thereby be considerably smaller: is equipped During the 6502 with 40 pins, while there are only 6507 28. Because of the reduced number of address lines is the address space of the 6507 8 KB limited. Because neither the NMI nor the IRQ connection of the 6502 design are brought out, hardware-controlled interrupts are not possible with the 6507. There are four clock variants of the microprocessor. The maximum specified is a clock rate of 4 MHz.

Manufacturer and use

The manufacturers of the 6507 were the Commodore Semiconductor Group (CSG), Rockwell Semiconductor Systems , Synertek and the United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC). The microprocessor was among others in the Atari 2600 - game console and the disk drive Atari 1050 installed. Atari carried it under the part number CO10745.
