The MS&D ( International conference on maritime security and defense ) is an international specialist conference for maritime security and defense that takes place every two years as part of the SMM trade fair on the Hamburg Messe site . The organizer is Hamburg Messe und Congress GmbH , the sponsor is Fr. Lürssen Werft and the cooperation partner is the specialist magazine Naval Forces . The chairman of the conference is Hans-Joachim Stricker .

history

The event was held for the first time in 2009. In this year and in 2011, as the "International conference and exhibition on maritime security and defense", it was also a trade fair for naval shipbuilding , defense and surveillance technology as well as techniques and devices for the defense against pirates . It has been integrated into the SMM since 2012.

The background to the origin of the event are the increasing number of pirate attacks on merchant shipping worldwide with hostage-taking off the coast of Somalia , but also in other sea areas.

Attendees

Conference attendees are military delegations from several continents as well as experts in the security of ports and sea routes from organizations, governments, academia, merchant shipping and industry.
