Hans-Joachim Stricker (born June 29, 1948 ) is a Vice Admiral a. D. of the German Navy and was in command of the fleet from April 2006 to July 2010 .

Military career

Stricker joined the Bundeswehr as an officer candidate ( Crew X / 68 ) in 1968 and was trained as a naval officer until 1972. In 1971 he was promoted to lieutenant at sea . From 1972 to 1974 he served as an officer on watch on the coast minesweeper Koblenz in the 6th minesweeping squadron in Wilhelmshaven and in 1973 was promoted to first lieutenant at sea . Then Stricker was transferred to Kiel and served from 1974 to 1977 as the commander of the inland minesweeper Nixe in the 3rd minesweeper squadron . From 1984 to 1987 Stricker was in the United States offset and served in Norfolk , Virginia , as a staff officer in the planning department of the Supreme Allied Commander Atlantic (SACLANT) of the NATO and among US admirals Wesley L. McDonald and Lee Baggett, Jr. After this assignment abroad, Stricker returned to Germany and served in the Bonn Federal Ministry of Defense from 1987 to 1988 as a consultant in the staff department VI of the naval command staff (FüM VI 1) under Vice Admiral Hans-Joachim Mann . In 2003, Stricker was appointed Rear Admiral and was again transferred to Norfolk, Virginia, where he served until 2004, first in a double function as Assistant Chief of Staff Implementation and Deputy Chief of Staff Transformation, and then until 2006 only as Deputy Chief of Staff Transformation with the now Supreme Allied Commander Transformation (SACT) Admiral Edmund P. Giambastiani . During this time he was named Vice Admiral in 2005. Back in Germany he took over the post of commander of the fleet in Glücksburg in April 2006 . In 2010, his term of office ended with his retirement on July 1, 2010. He passed the command to Rear Admiral Manfred Nielson .

Hans-Joachim Stricker received the Bundeswehr Cross of Honor in gold and silver and the NATO Meritorious Service Medal. In 2010 he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon .

Stricker has been President of the German Maritime Institute (DMI) since June 2012 .
