Klaus-Jürgen Steindorff

Klaus-Jürgen Steindorff (born May 17, 1932 in Rostock , † January 14, 2006 in Kampen ) was a German naval officer , most recently Rear Admiral of the German Navy .

Life

Before founding the Bundeswehr , he studied meteorology at the Free University of Berlin and joined the Germania fraternity in Berlin in 1954 . In January 1956, Steindorff joined the German Navy as a member of Crew I / 56 . He was trained as a jet pilot by the US Navy from 1956 to 1958 in Pensacola , Florida . He then began his career as a naval aviator in Naval Aviation Squadron 2 . He then served as a staff officer in the Fleet Command , in the Federal Ministry of Defense and as a naval attaché at the German embassy in Washington, DC He then became teaching group commander and deputy school commander of the Mürwik Naval School . As a flotilla admiral he was initially head of the staff department Fü M VII in the command staff of the Navy and held this post until December 31, 1984, after which Flotilla Admiral Gerhard Bing was his successor there. He himself released Flotilla Admiral Dieter Ehrhardt as Commander of the Naval Forces in the North Sea on January 1, 1985 and held this post until March 31, 1986, when Flotilla Admiral Friedrich Remde was his successor. On April 1, 1986, he in turn became Chief of Staff as Rear Admiral at NATO Headquarters Northern Europe - AFNORTH - Allied Forces Northern Europe . On March 31, 1989, he retired.

After his retirement in 1989, Steindorff became director of Klöckner-Humboldt-Deutz AG in Cologne. With his relocation to Sylt , he became involved in local politics in his home town of Kampen and as a member of the district council in the district of North Friesland . From 1994 to 1997 he was chairman of the Navy Officers Association .

His final resting place is in the cemetery of the St. Severin Church in Keitum .
