The MTZ-52 ( Russian МТЗ-52 , in German-speaking countries mostly transcribed MTS-52 , also known in combination with the brand name Belarus ) is a tractor that was produced in the Minski Traktorny Sawod from 1964 . The model is a version of the MTZ-50 with all-wheel drive. Around 200,000 units were built in 21 years; the GDR imported the vehicle from 1964.

The development of the MTZ-52 goes back to the MTZ-7 , the first wheel tractor with all-wheel drive from the Minski Traktorny Sawod, as well as the MTZ-50 without all-wheel drive, which had already been developed a few years earlier. Development began in 1959 on the orders of the Council of Ministers of the USSR with the aim that the vehicles should go into series production from 1962. For 1965 a total production of 75,000 MTZ-50 and MTZ-52 per year was aimed for.

When it became clear at the end of 1961 that the set target would not be able to be met, the Council of Ministers postponed the start of production to the fourth quarter of 1962 in a second resolution. In fact, series production of the MTZ-52 began in 1964, two years later than the basic MTZ model -50.

From the mid-1960s there was the MTZ-52 "Super", which mainly differed in its power increased to 60 HP (44 kW). The four-cylinder in-line diesel engine with a displacement of 4.75 liters remained the same, only the maximum number of revolutions of the crankshaft was increased slightly. These vehicles came to the GDR from 1967.

Between 1961 and 1985 nearly 1.26 million tractors from the family around the MTZ-50 were built, of which around 200,000 were of the MTZ-52 type. In 1985 production was stopped in favor of the MTZ-82 , which had been in production since 1974 .

At the end of 1988 there were 12,312 MTZ-52 tractors in the holdings of the agricultural production cooperatives of the GDR. Most of the machines had been imported before 1980.
