The MTZ-82 ( Russian МТЗ-82 , in German-speaking countries mostly transcribed MTS-82 , also known in combination with the brand name Belarus ) is a tractor that has been mass-produced in the Minski Traktorny Sawod since 1974 . The GDR imported tractors of this type from 1977 onwards. With the MTZ-80 there is also a version without all-wheel drive .

The first prototypes of the new tractor series around the MTZ-80 were built and tested in 1972. They were supposed to replace the MTZ-50 (without all-wheel drive) and the MTZ-52 , according to a decision of the Council of Ministers of the USSR in 1966 . Series production of the vehicles began together with the MTZ-80 in 1974. The MTZ-50 was manufactured in parallel until 1985.

The first version of the MTZ-82 had a small driver's cab and a grille that was different from the MTZ-50. From 1979 there was a model with a new driver's cab for the export market, including the GDR . This was significantly larger and equipped with more glass surfaces, which improved the all-round view. By 1995, a total of 1.496 million copies of the MTZ-80 and MTZ-82 had been produced.

In 1995 the manufacturer carried out a major overhaul, just like the model without all-wheel drive. The result, the MTZ-82.1, is still being built today. The tractors are now basically equipped with the modernized driver's cab. The shape of the grille and the bonnet have been revised. Little changed, however, in terms of the technology installed. The same 4.75-liter diesel engine from the Minski Motorny Sawod that has been installed since the start of production is still being installed. In addition to the basic model, the Minski Traktorny Sawod also produces a whole series of modified versions that differ greatly from the original in terms of both looks and technology.

At the end of 1988 there were 7,922 MTZ-82 wheel tractors in the inventory of the GDR's agricultural production cooperatives. More than half, namely 4,178 copies, were imported between 1977 and 1980, and another 2,789 between 1981 and 1985. The remaining almost 1000 machines were only purchased after 1985.

Model variants

In the course of the long production period, different versions of the vehicle were and are still being built.

  • MTZ-82 - basic version, built in series from 1974 to 1995. Recognizable by the much smaller cab and the characteristic radiator grille, which also distinguishes it from the MTZ-52. In export, the model was delivered with a large cab from 1979.
  • MTZ-82.1 - Revised basic version, in production since 1995. New, larger cab and minor revisions.
  • MTZ-82K - special version for working on steep slopes, designed and manufactured in Tbilisi , Georgia.
  • MTZ-82N - model with lower ground clearance and thus a lower center of gravity, as well as changed tires.
  • MTZ-82R - Special model for rice cultivation, especially a higher chassis with greater ground clearance
  • MTZ-82-23 / 12 - model with revised front axle and larger front wheels.
  • MTZ-92 - export version with increased power (90 PS (66 kW)) and easier weather protection.
  • MTZ-820 , MTZ-892 , MTZ-892.2 , MTZ-920 , MTZ-920.2 and MTZ-952.2 - Modernized versions, some with slightly increased engine power. All models still have the same basic shape, but a slightly beveled radiator grille.
  • MTZ-920.3 , MTZ-920.4 , MTZ-952 , MTZ-952.3 , MTZ-952.4 and MTZ-952.5 - Modernized models with completely redesigned body.

There are also various modifications with attachments such as excavator arms or dozer blades that are used as construction machines.
