Meters above the Adriatic Sea

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Meters above the Adriatic is an indication of the height above sea level with three possible reference heights. In Austria , for example, the information is based on an average water level in the Adriatic Sea at the Molo Sartorio in Trieste ( Trieste level in 1875 ). In the Yugoslav successor states, on the other hand, the system refers to the mean water level at Molo Sartorio from 1900 ( Trieste 1900 gauge ), while an identical height definition for Albania is based on the Durrës gauge , the mean water level in the city of Durrës .

Abbreviations

It is abbreviated differently depending on the national language :

  • Austria: m above sea level Adriatic Sea , m above sea level A. or müa , colloquially well above sea level , Adria height or functional height
  • Hungary : mAf from méter Adria felett
  • Yugoslav successor states: mi J. von Metara iznad Jadrana

level

While the level from 1875 is used as the reference value for Austria , the level from 1900 is used for the areas of the former Yugoslavia (Nadmorska visina, m / nv ).

In the former Eastern Bloc , after the end of the Second World War, many countries were converted to the Kronstadt level definition .

In Albania (normal orthometric height), meters above the Adriatic are also used as height information , whereby reference is made to a level Durrës determined in the port city of Durrës .

Height differences between Austria and its neighboring countries

In Austria the normal orthometric height (spheroidal height) is used. Austria's neighboring countries use different reference heights and methods, which leads to differences between the height information. These amount to at the state borders
