The Maʿagan Micha'el kibbutz ( Hebrew מעגן מיכאל) is located at the southern end of the Carmel coast , southwest of the Israeli city of Zichron Ja'akow on the Mediterranean Sea .

At the site of the current settlement, which was founded in 1949, there were swamps that were drained by Jewish pioneers until the 1930s . Crocodiles lived in these swamps until 1900; south of the kibbutz, the last crocodile in present-day Israel was hunted at Nahal HaTaninim ("crocodile stream "). Remnants of the swamps, especially in the mouth of the Nahal HaTaninim, are now a nature reserve.

Since Maʿagan Micha'el is economically relatively successful, unlike many other kibbutzim, it is not threatened by the emigration of its residents. There are many young people among the people living in Maʿagan Micha'el; around 20 children are born every year. According to figures from the Israeli Central Bureau of Statistics, Maʿagan Micha'el had 1992 inhabitants at the end of 2018.
