Maaike Polspoel (born March 28, 1989 in Vilvoorde ) is a former Belgian cyclist .

Athletic career

2006 and 2007 had Maaike Polspoel first successes as a mountain biker and cyclocross . In 2008 she received her first contract with a UCI women's team . In 2011 she became Belgian champion in team pursuit on the track together with Kelly Druyts and Elsa Belmans . In the same year she won a stage of the Boels Rental Ladies Tour . In 2012 she took part in the road race of the Summer Olympics in London and finished 29th. In the same year she won the provincial championships of Flemish Brabant in road races and individual time trials . In 2014 she was again provincial champion in road races and in 2017 in the individual time trial.

In mid-2015, Polspoel was diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis . She had to undergo long-term treatment, continued to race, but was limited in her performance. In between, she thought of quitting competitive sports. At the beginning of 2017, she announced that the disease could be contained with medication and that she is now starting the new season full of hope. At the end of the year she ended her cycling career.
