Mac DeMarco
McBriare Samuel Lanyon "Mac" DeMarco (born Vernor Winfield McBriare Smith IV April 30, 1990 in Duncan , British Columbia ) is a Canadian musician . The singer , multi-instrumentalist , video artist and music producer is best known for his solo career, in which he has released four studio albums to date: 2 , Salad Days , This Old Dog and Here Comes the Cowboy . In addition, two EPs called Rock and Roll Night Club and Another One have been released so far . DeMarco has a home studio in his apartment and releases his music through the New York independent label Captured Tracks. Before his breakthrough as a solo artist, he was a member of Makeout Videotape from 2008 to 2011.
DeMarco combines influences from indie rock , lo-fi , dream pop and psychedelic folk . His stubborn musical style is often difficult to classify into a particular genre. For example, his music has already been described as “Blue Wave”, “Slacker Rock” or DeMarco himself as “Jizz Jazz”. His role models include Neil Young , Grateful Dead , Jonathan Richman and Shuggie Otis .
DeMarco plays all the instruments ( guitar , bass , drums , keyboards , percussion ) on his albums himself, at concerts he is played by a band consisting of Andrew Charles White (guitar), Jon Lent (bass), Alec Meen (keyboard) and Joe McMurray (drums) accompanies, who also provides background vocals .
DeMarco lived with his partner in New York until they moved to Los Angeles together in August 2016.
