This Old Dog is the third studio album by the Canadian singer-songwriter Mac DeMarco , which was released on May 5, 2017 on the indie label Captured Tracks. During the recording of the album Mac Demarco moved in August 2016 together with his partner Kiera McNally of the New York district of Far Rockaway to Los Angeles in California . The first two songs on the album, My Old Man and This Old Dog , as well as the songs On The Level and One More Love Song were released as single releases.

Emergence

The process of creating the album was heavily influenced by the move from New York City to Los Angeles. As on the two previous albums, he played all the instruments. At concerts he is accompanied by his live band.

DeMarco produced and mixed the album. David Ives is responsible for the mastering . Shags Chamberlain helped with the mix .

The album was released as a download , CD and LP , but also on compact cassette . The distribution in DeMarco's home country Canada was taken over by Royal Mountain Records.

reception

The album received consistently positive reviews, on Metacritic the album received 79 out of 100 points based on 24 reviews.

On Pitchfork awarded This Old Dog 7.9 out of 10 points and was so good, however, rated lower than the two previous records. In contrast , the influential music critic Anthony Fantano rated the album with 7 out of 10 points better than Salad Days .
