Madeleine Marion

Madeleine Marion ( April 23, 1929 - March 10, 2010 ) was a French actress .

Life

Madeleine Marion completed an acting training with Béatrix Dussane at the Conservatoire national supérieur d'art dramatique in Paris in the 1950s . Her career as a stage actress began in the mid-1950s. Marion played a wide repertoire that included roles in the ancient tragedies of Euripides and Sophocles , plays by William Shakespeare and the classic French authors Molière and Racine , but also works of modernism and contemporary theater.

In 1960 she played Mascha in Anton Chekhov's tragic comedy Three Sisters in a production by Sacha Pitoëff at the Théâtre de l'Alliance française in Paris. In 1961 she appeared at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées under the direction of Roger Planchon in a production of Christopher Marlowe's drama Edward II . Other important roles in later years were the title role in Racines Bérénice at the Théâtre des Amandiers in Nanterre in a production by Antoine Vitez , and in 1983 Gertrude in William Shakespeare's tragedy Hamlet at the Théâtre national de Chaillot , also a production by Antoine Vitez. Under his direction, she also appeared in Paul Claudel's drama The Silk Shoe at the Avignon Theater Festival in 1987 .

From 1988 to 1995, Marion was professor for scenic interpretation at the Conservatoire national supérieur d'art dramatique . She was regarded as a valued drama teacher. In 2002, Marion became a member of the Comédie-Française . In recent years she has played there in The Great World Theater by Pedro Calderón de la Barca (2004), in Robert Wilson's production of the fables by Jean de La Fontaine (2004), in The Bacchantes by Euripides in a production by André Wilms ( 2005) and in Yerma by Federico García Lorca (2008). In a new production of The Three Sisters by Alain Francon , she was supposed to take on the role of the old housekeeper Anfissa.

The focus of Marion's acting was clearly on her theatrical work. However, Marion also starred in some films that have also been shown internationally. She worked with directors Jean Renoir , Claude Barma , Robert Bresson , Jacques Rouffio and Jean-Paul Rappeneau , among others . Of her film roles, Juliette in the horror film The Testament of Dr. Cordelier and her portrayal of the Mother Superior in the literary film adaptation of Cyrano de Bergerac .
