Madisonville is a city in the US state of Kentucky . In the place the administration of the county Hopkins County sits .

history

Madisonville was founded in 1807 and named after former US President James Madison . In the early 20th century, the place was the center of the railway, coal and tobacco industries.

In the 1960s, Madisonville moved away from industry towards service. A shopping center with an adjoining cinema was opened.

In November 2005, a tornado destroyed parts of the city. The electricity failed, and the mayor imposed a curfew and declared a state of emergency.
