As Riga lost to the Slough Phantoms in the penalty shootout on the following day of the tournament and Herlev simultaneously defeated Vålerenga Oslo , they only needed one more point in the last game against Slough. Group D
Group D, played in Nizhny Novgorod , saw the hosts of SKIF Nizhny Novgorod reach the intermediate round. In contrast to the other teams, only two wins were enough for the Russians, as only three teams attended the tournament weekend. The HC Slovan Bratislava did not travel to, since participation was prohibited by state-owned association him. Unimpressed by this, the women of SKIF Nizhny Novgorod defeated their opponents, HC Cergy-Pontoise and SC Miercurea Ciuc , clearly with double-digit results.

Intermediate round
The intermediate round games took place from December 5th to 7th, 2008. The Czech Kralupy nad Vltavou acted as the venue for Group E and Group F was played in Segeltorp . The two teams in the first places in a group qualified for the Super Final .
Group E
The group E games, for which qualifier HC Slavia Prague hosted, were played in Kralupy nad Vltavou in the Czech Republic . In addition to the Prague women and the Herlev Hornets qualified in the preliminary round , the Kazakh champion Aisulu Almaty and the Finnish champion Espoo Blues were set for the tournament.
As expected, the two seeded clubs from Kazakhstan and Finland prevailed and reached the Super Final . Both Almaty and Espoo were able to clearly beat the Danish representatives, but both had bigger problems with the hosts of HC Slavia Prague and only narrowly won their respective duels. On the last day of the match, the two undefeated teams only decided who should travel to the final tournament as group winners. The Finns achieved this with a clear 4-0 victory, while Slavia was able to secure third place from Herlev.

Group F.
The qualifiers SKIF Nischni Novgorod and ESC Planegg / Würmtal as well as the two seeded teams DHC Langenthal , the reigning champion of Switzerland, and the host and Swedish champion Segeltorps IF took part in the group F played in the Swedish Segeltorp .
The qualifier from Nizhny Novgorod caused a big surprise when he qualified for the final tournament as first in the group. Already on the first day of play they managed a clear 5-0 victory over Langenthal, which laid the foundation for the successful qualification. Meanwhile, Segeltorp had also defeated the German representative. The following day both teams were successful again, so the decision was made before the last day of competition. Thus, on the final day in the duel between Segeltorp and Nizhny Novgorod, only the group winner was determined, which the Russians achieved with a clear victory. The Swiss Confederation secured third place by beating the ESC Planegg / Würmtal.

Super final
The Super Final took place from January 30th to February 1st, 2009 in Lohja , Finland . For the first time, none of the four finalists was seeded. Four teams were only able to qualify via the two qualifying rounds. These were Segeltorps IF , SKIF Nizhny Novgorod , Aisulu Almaty and the Espoo Blues .
On the very first day, the women of SKIF Nizhny Novgorod caused a surprise when they were able to confirm the victory over Segeltorps IF from the intermediate round. The Espoo Blue also made their duel against Aisulu Almaty victorious. On the second day of the tournament, the Russians were able to win their game against Almaty and - because Segeltorp beat Espoo 7: 1 - they topped the table with six points. So Espoo needed a clear victory in the last game against Nizhny Novgorod to become tournament winner or to make Segeltorp the winner, while Novgorod only needed one point to win the cup for the first time. They achieved this with a narrow 2-1 victory over the Finnish titleholder, with which they dethroned AIK Solna for the first time in four years. Segeltorps IF secured second place with a final victory over Aisulu Almaty.
