Maggie Vessey
Maggie Vessey (born December 23, 1981 in Santa Cruz , California ) is an American athlete who specializes in the 800-meter run .
Vessey attended California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo and finished second in the 2005 NCAA 800-meter championships. An injury in the following season threw her development back. In the US elimination competitions for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, she finished fifth.
In 2009 Vessey surprisingly beat the Kenyan Olympic champion Pamela Jelimo at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene . In the following month she increased her personal best at the Herculis in Monaco to 1: 57.27 minutes and thus achieved an interim world best for the year. At the World Championships in Berlin , she was seventh in her semi-final run but not able to qualify for the final. In 2010 and 2011 she was second at the US championships. At the 2011 World Championships in Daegu, she finished sixth.
Vessey is known for her extravagant outfits while running.
