Magnano is a district ( fraction , Italian frazione ) of Villa Collemandina in the province of Lucca , Tuscany region in Italy .

geography

The place is about 1.5 km northwest of the main town Villa Collemandina, about 38 km north of the provincial capital Lucca and about 82 km northwest of the regional capital Florence in the valley of the Serchio in the Garfagnana landscape . The place is at 574  m slm and had about 60 inhabitants in 2011. About 300 meters west of the village, the Torrente Corfino , a left tributary of the Serchio, flows from north to south.

history

The church of Manianus (also Manianum or Santa Maria de Maniano ) was first mentioned in the year 899. In 1832 the place had about 260 inhabitants. In 2001 there were 86 and 2001 only 64 inhabitants.

  • Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta , first mentioned in 899 as Santa Maria a Magnano church in the town center. Then she was by Pope Alexander III. 1168 and mentioned in Codice Pelavicino from 1124. The baptismal font dates from the 18th century. In the 19th century the church was enlarged and the entrance area relocated. In 1976 the church was restored. Inside are the paintings Madonna Assunta tra i Santi and Madonna incoronata tra i Santi , both from the 17th century.
  • Oratorio della Madonna di Loreto , oratorio created in 1687 just north of Magnano on the road to Corfino. It was restored in 1956 and 2002.
