The Corfino is a left tributary of the Serchio , which flows into the Serchio after a total of 12 km. Classified as a torrente , it flows in the countryside of eastern Garfagnana , province of Lucca , Tuscany .

course

The Corfino rises in the northern municipality of Villa Collemandina below and south of the mountain peak of Monte Vecchio (1982 m) in the northern Apennines on the border of the regions Tuscany and Emilia-Romagna (Tuscany-Romagna-Apennine - Appennino tosco-romagnolo). From here it flows south and passes northwest Sassorosso (993 m), southeast Corfino (820 m) and shortly east Canigiano (641 m). Then it reaches the main town of Villa Collemandina to the west, where the river to Lago di Villa is dammed. The dam was built in 1914, is 37.50 m high, 65 m long and is operated by Enel . The Corfino then flows further south and leaves the municipality of Villa Collemandina after a total of 9 km. In the municipality of Castiglione di Garfagnana , it first comes near Mozzanella (436 m) and then to Pian di Cerreto (421 m). After 2 km in Castiglione di Garfagnana, it now reaches Pieve Fosciana . Here he spends his last 2 km and undergoes the state road SP 16 and the railway bridge Ponte sul Crofino of the railway line Aulla Lunigiana – Lucca , to then near the church Madonna delle Grazie (also Madonna del Ponte ) and the medieval bridge Ponte della Madonna southeast of Pontecosi (321 m) to flow into the reservoir Lago di Pontecosi . The reservoir was created in 1925 and has a dam wall 33 m high.
