Pontecosi is a district of Pieve Fosciana in the province of Lucca , Tuscany region in Italy .

geography

The place is about 2 km west of the capital Pieve Fosciana, about 33 km north of the provincial capital Lucca and about 80 km northwest of the regional capital Florence in the upper valley of the Serchio in the Garfagnana landscape . The place is 321 m and in 2001 had about 260 inhabitants. Today there are 230 inhabitants. A few meters southeast of the village, the Torrente Corfino (coming from north to south, total length 12 km) flows into the Lago di Pontecosi reservoir, which is part of the Serchio.

history

The place was first mentioned on April 29, 954 in a document from Cunerado, Bishop of Lucca . Lords of the place were the Gherardinghi, who were able to hold the place until the 13th century. In 1228 the place was under the influence of Pope Gregory IX as Comune de Pontecolsi . At the end of the 13th century the place fell under the rule of Lucca and in the 15th century it became part of the Vicaria estense di Castelnuovo Garfagnana der Este . The Rocca di Pontecosi castle, documented by Paolo Guinigi in 1410, no longer exists today.

  • Chiesa di San Magno , first mentioned in 954 as Santa Felicita church in the town center, which was also documented in 1168 and 1285 under the name Santa Felicita.
  • Chiesa della Madonna Addolorata , church in the town center, which was built in the 17th century. Has the memorial plaques on the facade for those who died in the two world wars.
  • Chiesa della Madonna delle Grazie (also called Madonna del Ponte ). Was documented in 1684 and was much smaller at the time. The renovation and expansion took place in the middle of the 19th century.
  • Ponte della Madonna , medieval stone bridge at the mouth of the Corfino.
  • Lago di Pontecosi , artificial reservoir created in 1925. The dam has a height of 33 m.
