Magnus Löhrer

Magnus Löhrer OSB (born April 6, 1928 in Gossau as Paul Löhrer ; † May 29, 1999 in Zug ) was a Swiss Catholic dogmatist .

Life

Löhrer entered the novitiate of the Benedictine Abbey in Einsiedeln in 1947 , made his profession on September 9, 1948 and in 1949 switched to study at Sant'Anselmo in Rome. In 1952 he was ordained a priest. His licensed thesis deals with "Humanism in Karl Barth " . In 1954 he received his doctorate with Cyprian Vagaggini ( "The concept of faith of St. Augustine in his first writings up to the Confessiones" , 1955). He returned to Einsiedeln and became a professor of dogmatics there. With Johannes Feiner he initiated the work Mysterium Salutis . In 1963 Löhrer was appointed to Sant'Anselmo as Vagaggini's successor. There he also met Karl Barth. From 1971 to 1976 he headed the Paulus Academy in Zurich . In Chur , too , he was a guest lecturer for dogmatics and fundamental theology . In 1976 he returned to Sant'Anselmo on the instructions of the Abbot Primate . He worked as a consultor at the Vatican Unity Secretariat . In 1992 he came back to Einsiedeln because of an illness and, after recovering, began to teach there again. He reformed the study regulations, Einsiedeln was affiliated with Sant'Anselmo under his time as prefect of studies.
