Magnus Ragnar Bruzelius
Magnus Ragnar Bruzelius (born June 4, 1832 in the parish of Löderup , Kristianstads län ; † February 17, 1902 in Stockholm ) was a Swedish doctor and biologist.
Life
Bruzelius was the son of the priest of Löderup and Hörup, doctor of philosophy, Magnus Bruzelius (1786–1855) and his wife Sofia Vilhelmina (née Johansson, 1805–1866). He enrolled in Lund in 1848 as a student . He received his master's degree in 1853 , became a lecturer in zoology in 1855 and received his doctorate in medicine in 1864. In the same year he took over the post of deputy head in a hospital of the Royal Seraphine Order in Stockholm. From 1877 to 1897 he was senior physician in the same hospital. He was elected to the Swedish Academy of Sciences in 1890.
Bruzelius participated in Swedish medical magazines. From 1865 to 1871 he was part of the editorial team of the Hygiea magazine and from 1869 until his death he was part of the editorial team of the Nordiskt Medicinskt Arkiv .
Bruzelius achieved great prestige in the country and many people went to his hospital to have their lung ailments cured. By marrying the daughter of the industrialist Johan Carl Kempe , Bruzelius made a considerable fortune. In his will, he left 100,000 Swedish kronor to the Swedish Medical Association, from which the widows and children of deceased doctors were supposed to receive an income. An amount of 10,000 crowns was earmarked for scholarships at the Karolinska Institute .
He was married twice: since October 14, 1871 with Kristina Helena (born Kempe, July 10, 1845 - March 9, 1879) and since August 15, 1882 with her half-sister Lotty Henrietta (born Kempe, born June 27, 1855) . Both daughters of the businessman Johan Christoffer Carl Kempe. He and Lotty had a daughter Ragna Henny Bruzelius.
