Magritte (film award)
The Magritte (French: Magritte du cinéma ) is the most important film award in the French-speaking part of Belgium . The award is named after the Belgian painter René Magritte and has been awarded annually in February since 2011 by the "Académie André Delvaux ". This academy was founded in October 2010 by the Association of Francophone Film Producers (UPFF) and the Francophone Authors Association "Pro Spère". The Magritte is the French-speaking counterpart to the Flemish Film Prize, which was first awarded at the Ostend Film Festival in 2010 and focuses mainly on Dutch-language film productions in Belgium. The Flemish Film Prize was renamed the Ensor Film Prize in 2012 .
These two Belgian film prizes, the Ensor and the Magritte, are to be regarded as the successors of the Joseph Plateau Prize , which was previously awarded from 1985 to 2006 as the joint national Belgian film prize. However, in 2007 this price was abolished.
In Flanders there is also the Film Fest in Ghent .
