Mahmoud Ayoub

Mahmoud Mustafa Ayoub (born 1935 in Kana , Lebanon ) is a Syrian , North American Islamic scholar , religious scholar , university professor and a personality of Islam in the United States .

Mahmoud Ayoub was born in southern Lebanon in 1935. In 1964 he earned a BA in Philosophy from the American University of Beirut , in 1966 an MA in Religious Thought from the University of Pennsylvania , and in 1975 a Ph.D. in the history of religion from Harvard University . From 1978 to 1988 he was a Research Associate at the Center for Religious Studies at the University of Toronto , Toronto , Canada . He is the author of various monographs ( The Qur'an and Its Interpreters (2 volumes); Islam: Faith and History ) and has written various articles in Muslim World (Hartford Seminary) a. a.
