An important PKK cadre school bears his name.

death

On March 28, 1986, Mahsum Korkmaz was shot dead during a night march. Since then he has been an icon of the PKK and is venerated as a martyr. The PKK describes him as the “legendary commander of the Kurdish people”. There are conflicting reports about the circumstances of his death. The PKK paid tribute to his death with the following words:

“On March 28, 1986, as a result of a treacherous plot, he joined the Caravan of Immortals. He left behind no fear or worry, no terrible determination and will to win. "

Şemdin Sakık (alias Parmaksız Zeki ) describes the death as a result of an internal PKK account and regards Abdullah Öcalan as the mastermind behind the murder of Korkmaz. Sakık, a former high-ranking PKK commander, describes the circumstances of Mahsum Korkmaz's death in his prison book APO as follows:

“Under the leadership of Mahsum Korkmaz, we were sent to Mount Gabar in the form of a group of 25. [...] On March 28, 1986, we had to go on a march at night to find bread. We were ambushed by the security forces. Except for a minor injury to a comrade, none of us was harmed, but Mahsum Korkmaz, the prime example of the apoist personality, was hit in the forehead with a single bullet and died. We discussed how Mahsum could have been shot and returned [later] to the scene. We came to the conclusion that he was shot by one of us and had no doubt that it was Feyzi Aslan (Selim). He had left his pistol at the scene and before the incident he had a heated dispute with Mahsum Korkmaz, which had almost degenerated into a physical argument. We wrote reports for Apo. We were prevented from pursuing the matter further. Apo later rewarded Feyzi, despite all these events. "

Abdullah Öcalan said that in the death of Mahsum Korkmaz, clusters within the PKK had their fingers in the game. In any case, he was not shot by soldiers.
