The Main Bridge Eltmann is a 1055 m long bridge on Autobahn 70 . It consists of two superstructures, a composite steel and prestressed concrete structure from 1987 and a pure prestressed concrete bridge from 2006.

The overpass structure is located between the Knetzgau and Eltmann junctions and crosses the Main Valley at Eltmann in front of the Schwarzer Berg tunnel at an acute angle with the Main , an outer lock port and a weir arm , the left Main state road 2277 and three field lanes on the right Main . The motorway is straight in plan and has a longitudinal gradient of 1% to the east.

Box-girder cross-section of a prestressed concrete bridge

This structure was built between 2004 and 2006 at a cost of around 18 million euros. It consists of two sections separated by an expansion joint , the 573 m long river bridge, with a box-girder cross-section, and the eastern 483 m long foreland bridge with a T-beam cross-section .

Foundation and substructures

The abutment and pillar are based on 83 large bored piles with a diameter of 1.5 m. The three pillars on the Main under the river bridge have a massive cross-section with a width of 9.8 m and a thickness of 3.2 m. The dividing pillar between the river bridge and the approach bridge has the same thickness, but is 10.95 m wide and can be walked on like an abutment for maintenance of the transition structures . The approach bridge is supported by 8 m to 10 m high piers. These have a circular cross-section with a diameter of 1.7 m.

superstructure

Foreland bridge

Feed scaffolding of a T-beam bridge

The superstructure of the approach bridge is a continuous beam made of prestressed concrete with a two-web T-beam cross- section and a constant construction height of 2.2 m. The webs of the plate beam are 70 cm wide, the deck slab is between 22 cm and 52 cm thick. The pre-tensioning consists of internal tensioning cables . The 482.45 m long and 13.78 m wide superstructure has cross members in the bearing axes.
The spans for the 12-span approach bridge are 10 × 40.405 m - 40.005 m - 38.393 m.
The bridge was built in twelve sections with a prop scaffolding , which was supported on the pile head foundations of the piers.

River bridge

The superstructure of the river bridge, including the foreland area in front of the Schwarzer Berg tunnel, is also a continuous beam made of prestressed concrete. However, this 572.45 m long bridge section has a box girder cross-section with a maximum construction height of 7.55 m above the river piers and 3.8 m in the bridge field. The base plate width of the box girder is 7.5 m, the maximum thickness 1.3 m above the river pillars. The pre-tensioning consists of a mixed construction with internal and external tensioning cables .
The span for the 5-span river bridge is 72.66 m - 98.51 m - 147.09 m - 150.00 m - 104.192 m.
The river bridge was built by the three main pillars of the balance beam in the cantilever made, each with 31 sections. To stabilize the balance beam, auxiliary supports were arranged, first on the pillar and later on one side in the field. Outside the large span, at both ends, this bridge was also formed on falsework and concreted.

This structure was constructed from July 1984 to November 1987 with a roadway width of 10 m and caps on both sides 2 m wide. It consists of three sections separated by expansion joints , the 154 m long western foreland bridge with a T-beam cross section made of prestressed concrete, the 295 m long river bridge with two longitudinal girders as a composite steel structure and the eastern, 601 m long foreland bridge, also with a T-beam cross section made of prestressed concrete.

superstructure

Approach bridges

The eastern approach bridge is 15 fields longer than the new building. It has spans of 42 m, 13 × 40 m and 39 m. In terms of cross-section, the bridge does not differ from the new construction. The western foreland bridge is a two-span prestressed concrete structure, supported at the eastern end on a separating pillar together with the river bridge. It has spans of 73 m and 81 m and a two-web T-beam cross- section with a height of 4.1 m.

River bridge

The river bridge, a two-span steel composite bridge with variable construction height, which has a maximum construction height of 7.22 m above the central pillar and is prestressed there in the longitudinal direction. The construction height is reduced to 5.01 m compared to the edge pillars.
