The " Mainzer Singakademie eV formerly the Liedertafel and women's choir from 1831" is the oldest Mainz cultural association. It was founded in 1831 under the name "Mainzer Liedertafel". Since 2007, the Mainz Singakademie and cantare mainz have joined forces to help shape the cultural life of the city and the Mainz region with concerts. The singers perform under the name cantare mainz as a choir of the Mainz Singakademie.

The Mainz Singakademie is firmly integrated into the cultural life of the city of Mainz. It supports the city's activities and also has close relationships with the musicological institute at Johannes Gutenberg University and the Peter Cornelius Conservatory .

History and work

Conductors and composers such as Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy , Peter Cornelius , Johannes Brahms , Paul Hindemith , Hans Gál and Karl Maria Zwißler , under whose direction the choir z. B. performed for Göring , have worked with the Mainz Singakademie. Otto Bach had also applied for the office of conductor in 1863; A recommendation from Richard Wagner , however, questioned him in his correspondence with the publisher Schott . From 1979 to 2003 Eberhard Volk was artistic director of the Mainz Singakademie; among people there was u. a. an artistic exchange with the Italian Corneo . The commissioned composition “Fire signals - blinked over abysses” for baritone, mixed choir and orchestra was performed for the 150th anniversary. Alexander J. Süß has been the music director of the Mainz Singakademie since 2005.

The repertoire of cantare mainz includes the great oratorios by Handel, Haydn, Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Cornelius and Orff, as well as requies, passions and masses by Mozart, Bruckner and Bach.

In this artistic work the choir is supported by the Mainz Academy Orchestra, the orchestra of the Mainz Singakademie.
