geography

course

Headwaters

The Maisach has a heavily feathered tributary system. The Tannenfelser Rankbächle at about 830  m above sea level arises from the farthest source and at the same time the highest source . NHN . It runs south, deepens very quickly and after about one and a half kilometers takes in a larger inflow from the left at Hof Untere Wernest, creating the Wernestbach . This continues for another one and a half kilometers and then flows with the left and eastern upper reaches of the Maisach from Bad Antogast, a little over two kilometers long, which runs below the Brandkopf at about 740  m above sea level. NHN is created between the courtyards Hinterer and Vorderer Filderhart to Maisach.

Lower course

The Maisach flows from here quite stable west, in their valley now runs a county road (K 5300). It takes in a few other tributaries less than two and a half kilometers in length, passes a mill after a few more closely spaced homesteads in the district of Maisach and passes over to the area of the small town of Oppenau itself at the residential area An der Maisachhalde . After about another 800 meters, it finally flows into the lower Lierbach , the largest tributary of which it is, at the baths there and already within the closed settlement area of Oppenau .

Catchment area

The Maisach has a catchment area of around 13 km² in size, which extends in the form of a sickle that is quite wide in the middle and curved to the right from its northern tip above the top spring near its highest point on the Rossbühl at 963  m above sea level. NHN to its western tip at the mouth at about 285  m above sea level. NHN pulls. The main flow route Tannenfelser Rankbächle  - Wernestbach  - Maisach runs significantly closer to the right watershed, so most of the tributaries of the Maisach fall from the left.

The catchment area is framed by that of the receiving Lierbach in the northwest, the uppermost Rench in the east and the upper Rench and then again by the Lierbach in the southwest and west. On a short stretch at the northern tip above the highest spring in the tributary system, the watershed also runs towards the Murg .

Settlement and landscape

The Maisach flows through the area of the small town of Oppenau in the Ortenau district . Most of its stretch of river and almost all of its tributaries lie on the Maisach sub-mark , which also includes most of the catchment area. It is criss-crossed by many valleys, on the bottom and lower slopes of which there are often clearing islands around the Black Forest-typical prongs and individual farms and which have often grown together along the larger valley axes. Above this partially populated area there are forests up to the ridges. There is only one open hallway on Rossbühl .
