The Maison de l ' Arquebuse is a former 17th century shooting house in the French city ​​of Châtillon-sur-Seine . The building has been under monument protection as a Monument Historique since 1925 .

The building is located at the end of the Impasse de l'Arquebuse near the Seine to the west of Châtillon-sur-Seine . It consists of two parts of the building, which were built to the left and right of the carriage entrance and are connected by a high gallery . There was a firing range to the west .

history

In 1575, the shooting company of the Chevaliers de l'Arquebuse of Châtillon with the permission of King Henry III. founded. The Duke of Biron , governor of Burgundy , authorized the purchase of land in 1601, on which the construction of the facility was completed in 1619. It included a meeting room, a shooting room and accommodation for the guard. A bronze bust of Henry IV , which was removed during the revolutionary era, adorned the street front.

An inscription, which is now illegible and noted by H. Frérot , was engraved above the car door :
