history
In 1575, the shooting company of the Chevaliers de l'Arquebuse of Châtillon with the permission of King Henry III. founded. The Duke of Biron , governor of Burgundy , authorized the purchase of land in 1601, on which the construction of the facility was completed in 1619. It included a meeting room, a shooting room and accommodation for the guard. A bronze bust of Henry IV , which was removed during the revolutionary era, adorned the street front.
An inscription, which is now illegible and noted by H. Frérot , was engraved above the car door :
“ CE PRINCE N'EST PAS MORT, QUOIQUE UN FER HOMICIDE PLONGE DE DANS SON SEIN LUI AIT FERME LES YEUX: SA BONTE, SA VERTU, SES ACTES VALEUREUX LE FONT REVIVRE EN NOUS MALGRE CE PARRICIDE. "
"This prince is not dead, although a murderous iron stuck in his chest closed his eyes: his kindness, his virtue, his brave deeds let him revive in us despite this parricide."
