Maja Hürst grew up in Zurich, partly in Cairo and Cologne . She studied visual communication at the Zurich University of the Arts and received her diploma in 2004. She works as a freelance artist and worked as a graphic designer until 2009.

In 1998 she started with street art projects in public spaces. From 2003 she developed her own design language and has been signing with Tika ever since . She creates large figurative murals on house facades, walls and interior walls. Her pictures often depict geometrically abstracted animals or people with their typical flattened faces and broad noses. Her style is influenced by South American folk art as well as Indian myths. She often uses photos of totemic masks as reference material and draws on paper with a pen before spraying sketches on the wall. Her largest mural measures 20 by 110 meters and is on the facade of a concert building in Atlanta . The title "Mr. Wendal »is a reference to a song by the Atlanta hip-hop band Arrested Development .

She lives and works in Zurich, Rio de Janeiro and Berlin.
