Follow the Deadlights is the third studio album by the Belgian heavy metal / hard rock band Diablo Blvd. It was released on May 9, 2014 in Belgium and the Netherlands via Play It Again Sam . On January 23, 2015, the album was re-released worldwide via Nuclear Blast .
Emergence
In early 2013, singer Alex Agnew and guitarist Andries Beckers began songwriting for the new album in Becker's home studio. The musicians worked hard on vocal lines and refrains . Follow the Deadlights was recorded from May to August 2013 in the ICP Studios in Brussels and in the Oceanside Studios in Ostend . The album was produced by Ace Zec while Jay Ruston mixed the album . The mastering was done by Paul Logus. According to Andries Beckers, the band wanted to attract the best possible team for the album and praised the work of the producers for bands like Anthrax or Stone Sour .
With the album title, singer Alex Agnew wants to express that you should find something that you love and that you should kill. Peace Won by War expresses the "sad truth" according to Agnew that sometimes peace can only come about through war . For the songs follow the Dead Lights , Rise Like Lions and Son of Cain were music videos rotated. When the album was re-released by Nuclear Blast, the album's track list was slightly changed. The song Rise Like Lions , originally in the penultimate position, has been moved to the second position. As a bonus title, the album was supplemented by the song Saint of Killers , which had already appeared on the previous album Builders of Empires , released in 2011 .

According to Katrin Riedl from the German magazine Metal Hammer, the album scores "with catchiness, the charismatic deep voice of Agnew and with exciting lyrics". Since the band “have a knack for combining heaviness with melodic feeling”, they awarded five out of seven points. Norman R. from the online magazine Musikreviews was pleased that “there is finally a band again that seriously combines hard music with radio potential”. Even if “not every song is completely convincing”, the band could “ follow the path that Volbeat paved” and awarded eleven out of 15 points. On the other hand, Ronny Bittner from the German magazine Rock Hard lacks “that crucial bit of urgency in singing” or a “really outstanding hookline ” in most of the songs . Bittner awarded seven out of ten points.
Follow the Deadlights entered the Belgian-Flemish album charts at number five.
