Major Records is a music label from Hamburg that specializes in international electronic pop music. His most famous artists include Ladytron , IAMX , X-Perience and Boytronic .

history

Established in 2004

The company was founded in March 2004 by Hayo Lewerentz ( Boytronic ). While the music industry was in crisis and large record companies were no longer taking any risks, Lewerentz started his own label. His intention was to give talented artists in the electropop sector the opportunity to find an audience for their music outside of the mainstream.

In July 2004, Major Records released the Boytronic double album Maxi , a best of the band, with exclusive new tracks and remixes. At the same time, the label brought out the album Words Once Said by the band Celluloide from France.

2005

In 2005 the record company signed further music projects and expanded its profile. The band Ultrafox , consisting of two members of the Sneaker Pimps and two German singers, released their album Ice Skating , the Duo Eden from Ireland their CD Desolate Shores , and Leeloo Kobayashi (ex- propaganda member Andreas Thein ) released the album Playthings .

2006

In 2006, Major Records began the series of samplers electric! In cooperation with the online music magazine Re-Flexion . to surrender. Well-known groups from the field of synth / electro pop (including Alphaville , Erasure , Goldfrapp ), as well as newcomers contribute exclusive or rare songs and remixes. electric! 1 was released in March 2006, electric! 2 in February 2007.

In the spring of 2006 the label was expanded by Chris Corner alias IAMX . The frontman of the Sneaker Pimps released his second solo album The Alternative via Major Records , as well as the previous Kiss + Swallow as a re-release. The Berlin pop trio X-Perience , known for their hits in the 90s, also celebrated its comeback in 2006 with the album Lost in Paradise on Major Records. One of the singles from it was the duet with Midge Ure , Personal Heaven .

2007

In 2007 the cult band Ladytron from England joined Major Records. Her album Witching Hour was released there as a new, expanded edition with a bonus CD. With Christian Purwien, the singer of Second Decay , the Hamburg label signed another renowned artist. In 2007 his new band Purwien released his first album, Eins .

While searching for newcomers, Lewerentz also discovered the Hamburg indie pop band Yuno , whose debut Satellite appeared on Major Records in 2007, and the synth rock formation Pearls of Dew , which released their first album Alpha that same year .

Also in 2007 Lewerentz founded the subsidiary Major Digital, which provides the songs of its artists exclusively as downloads. The aim here is to make the music of some newcomers available worldwide on the Internet and thus build up a fan base before the risk of expensive CD production is taken.

At the end of 2007, the well-known British electro-pop band Mesh released their live DVD The World's A Big Place / We Collide Tour via Major Records .

2008

In 2008 Ladytron released their fourth album Velocifero on Major Records .

In March 2008, the third and last part of the sampler series was also released electric! .

The label also discovered the German Synthpopband Ultima Bleep and brought their debut album I to market. In addition, there have been some digital releases by newcomer bands via the subsidiary label Major Digital.

2009

The first releases of 2009 are the two albums Damaged Goods by Mechanical Cabaret and Warpaint by the newly signed band Scarlet Soho . Both albums were released in March of that year.
