Makonnen Endelkachew

Makonnen Endelkachew ( Amharic መኮንን እንዳልካቸው ; born February 16, 1890 in Tagulat (Shoa Province), † February 27, 1963 in Addis Ababa ) was an Ethiopian politician. From 1941 to 1943 he was Minister of the Interior and from 1943 to 1957 the first Prime Minister of his country.

The office of Prime Minister was re-created by Emperor Haile Selassie after his triumphant return after the Italian invasion, as part of a social and economic modernization. Endelkachew was entrusted with this office by him. He paused for his resignation on November 1, 1957. He was succeeded by Abebe Aragai .

17 years later, his son Endelkachew Makonnen followed in his father's footsteps and became prime minister himself.
