Endelkachew Makonnen ( Amharic እንዳልካቸው መኮንን ; * 1927 in Addis Ababa ; † November 24, 1974 ) was an Ethiopian politician . He was Prime Minister of his country from March to July 1974.

Makonnen comes from a political dynasty. His father Makonnen Endelkachew was Prime Minister of Ethiopia for 15 years in the 1940s and 1950s. He studied at Oxford and became an important foreign policy advisor to the emperor . Makonnen became Ethiopia's ambassador in London . In 1961 he returned to his country and became Minister of Trade and Industry. From 1966 to 1969 he was Ethiopia's envoy to the United Nations. Subsequently, communications, telecommunications and postal ministers until his appointment as prime minister. Makonnen followed in his father's footsteps and was appointed as his successor after Prime Minister Aklilu Habte-Wold's resignation on March 1, 1974. He only held this post for four and a half months. After the so-called Provisional Military Administrative Council took over the government , Makonnen was arrested, sentenced to death without trial and executed .
