Tesfaye Dinka

Tesfaye Dinka ( Amharic ተስፋዬ ድንካ ; * November 3, 1939 in Ambo ; † December 6 or December 7, 2016 in Fairfax ) was Prime Minister of Ethiopia from April 27 to June 6, 1991 .

Tesfaye Dinka belongs to the Oromo people . Still, he was a senior member of the Mengistu regime and a member of the Politburo of the Workers' Party of Ethiopia (WPE). Before being appointed head of government, Dinka had already gained experience in various ministerial positions. Successively he was Minister of Agriculture, Finance and Industry. From 1989 to 1991 foreign minister of his home country. At the same time he held the post of Deputy Prime Minister from September 10, 1987. Tesfaye Dinka belonged to the moderate people of the Mengistu regime and to the camp of those members of the government who Mengistu recommended negotiations with the insurgents. In the last days of Mengistu Haile Mariam's regime , he was appointed head of government. Almost a month later, after fleeing Mengistu and conquering the capital Addis Ababa , he had to surrender his office to the new rulers.

Dinka worked for the World Bank and UN organizations in the 1990s. He had lived in the US for years and was a senior advisor to the Global Coalition for Africa. This is committed to the economic development of Africa.
