Mal-Mo-E: The Secret Mission is a 2019 historical film by the South Korean screenwriter and director Eom Yu-na. The film is based on historical events that took place in Japan-occupied Korea in the 1930s and 1940s. The term Mal-Mo-E ( 말 모이 ) comes from an older Korean dialect and means to collect words .

In Japanese-occupied Korea in 1941 at the time of World War II , the Korean language is banned as the language of instruction. The language is increasingly suppressed. Ryu Jeong-hwan of the Korean Writing Society ( 한글 학회 Hangeul Hakhoe ) wants to create an all-encompassing dictionary to preserve the Korean language. The petty criminal Kim Pan-su runs into the group by chance and realizes how important the preservation of the language is for Korea's independence.

Mal-Mo-E was released in South Korean cinemas on January 9, 2019 and reached a total of almost 2.9 million visitors.
Yoon Min-sik of the Korea Herald named the film one of the best of the decade.
