Malam Saguirou (born April 15, 1979 in Zinder ; full name: Malam Ibrahim Malam Mahaman Mahaman Saguirou ) is a Nigerien film director and film producer .

Life

Malam Saguirou began studying law at the Abdou Moumouni University in Niamey . In February 2001 violent student riots broke out and the university was temporarily closed. As a result of the dramatic experience, Saguirou turned his interest to cinema. In the same year he began to attend a film course in Niamey , which he finished in 2002. He then completed a documentary film training course in Dakar in 2004 and in Annecy in 2005 .

In 2005, Le chasseur de vent was his first film as a director. Together with the experienced director Inoussa Ousséïni , who is thirty years his senior , Saguirou founded a film production company for which he worked from 2005 to 2007. During this time he took part in the Berlinale Talent Campus 2006. In 2007 Saguirou set up his own production company. Like his compatriot Sani Magori , he shaped a new generation of Nigerien film , for which a specialization in documentary films is typical.
