Malamini Jobarteh

Malamini Jobarteh (* approx. 1940 in Gambia , † July 31, 2013 in Brikama , Gambia) was a Gambian musician and Jeli . He played the West African instrument Kora , a 21-string bridge harp. In the late 1970s, he toured the United States and Europe with Dembo Konte . In the 1990s he worked with Rüdiger Oppermann , the concert recording of Same Sun, Same Moon 1992 was voted record of the year and was in the European World Music Charts for four months.

Jobarteh was the adoptive son of Alhaji Bai Konte and his eldest son Ebraima, with the stage name Tata Dindin , is also known for his kora music. Malamini's other son and kora player Pa Jobarteh toured the UK when he was a teenager .

Jobarteh managed " The Gambia National Troup " and founded the " Teramang Traditional Music School ".
