Malcolm Keen

Malcolm Keen (born August 8, 1887 in Bristol , † January 30, 1970 in London ) was a British actor .

life and career

Malcolm Keen, born in Bristol, made his stage debut in 1902, followed by a successful stage career spanning over 60 years. In England he was a well-known Shakespeare actor and he played on leading stages such as Her Majesty's Theater , the Old Vic and the Royal Shakespeare Theater . On Broadway in New York he was seen in ten productions between 1930 and 1963, including as Count Capulet in Romeo and Juliet alongside Olivia de Havilland and as Leonato in Much Ado about Nothing with John Gielgud .

As early as the 1910s, Keen was also active in British silent films, where he played leading roles or major supporting roles. At the end of the 1920s he made three films with the young Alfred Hitchcock : In Der Bergadler he played a hermit who falls in love with a teacher; In The Tenant , he was seen as a jealous policeman arresting his love rival for murder; and in The Man from the Isle of Man , Keen's lawyer character was also involved in a love triangle. In the talkie era , his roles tended to shrink. In the 1950s he was also active in television and made a few films in Hollywood , including Mitchell Leisen's comedy SOS - Two Mothers-In-Laws with Gene Tierney . He last stood in front of the camera in Burning Debt alongside Patrick McGoohan in 1962 .

The actor was married twice and was the father of actor Geoffrey Keen , who grew up largely without his father as he lived apart from his mother. Malcolm Keen died in London in 1970 at the age of 82.
