Maleck is a district of Emmendingen in southwest Baden-Württemberg, about 18 kilometers north of Freiburg im Breisgau .

geography

The village is located in the foothills of the southern Black Forest about 4.5 kilometers from the district town of Emmendingen , which in turn lies on the eastern edge of the Rhine plain a little north of Freiburg. Maleck is 300 meters above sea level, has a total area of about 235 hectares and 439 inhabitants (March 31, 2006). As part of a community reform, the previously independent Maleck joined the city of Emmendingen on August 1, 1971. The districts of Am Laberberg, Auf dem Buck, Brandel, Hintere Zaismatt and Vordere Zaismatt belong to Maleck.

history

The village probably originated in the 10th to 12th centuries as a clearing settlement and was first mentioned around 1330 as "Malnegge" in the Tennenbacher Güterbuch of the nearby Tennenbach Monastery . The “Eck des Maleno” could be the origin of today's place name, but it would also be possible to combine the Middle High German “mal” (sign, border point, court) with the collective name “Auf der Eck”. The district of Zeismatte was mentioned in a document as early as 1094 as "Zaizmannesmate". Maleck had many rulers over the centuries, there were Zähringian , Nimburgian, Hachbergian and Usenbergian property and rule rights. Maleck's history was significantly shaped by the Hachberg line of the Margraves of Baden.

On August 1, 1971, Maleck was incorporated into the district town of Emmendingen.

Geologically interesting is the "Malecker Vulkanschlot", a volcano that was active 50 million years ago on Malecker Buck on the southwestern edge of the town.

The nearby castle ruins of Hochburg , the second largest castle complex in Baden after Heidelberg Castle, are interesting for tourists .

administration

After the community reform there were and still are the following mayor in Maleck:
Hermann Ketterer
Willi Gutjahr
Hermann Streif
2004 to today: Felix Schöchlin
