Malek Jandali ( Arabic مالك جندلي, DMG Mālik Ǧandalī ; * December 25, 1972 in Waldbröl ) is an American composer and pianist of Syrian origin. Jandali was born in Germany but grew up in Homs (Syria). He is a cousin of Abdulfattah Jandali, Steve Jobs' biological father .

He played the piano as a child and in 1988 won first prize in a national competition for young artists in Syria. He first studied at the Damascus Conservatory and went to the USA in 1995 to study with the comic artist Erik Larsen, who a.o. a. works for Marvel Comics . In 2004 he graduated from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte .

Malek has a deep interest in music for dramatic purposes and often draws pictures for his musical inspiration. His compositions range from solo instrumental pieces to large ensemble and orchestral works. He played in London , Cairo , Damascus , Istanbul , Paris , Atlanta and Washington , among others . For his CD Echoes from Ugarit , released in 2008, he interpreted the oldest notes in the world, which date from the Bronze Age and were discovered in the Syrian Ugarit .

Since 2012 he has dedicated his music to "the people of Syria and their noble desire for freedom - especially the people of Homs".
