Malik Lorentz Rink Søren Kleist (* 1977 ) is a Greenlandic cameraman , screenwriter , film director and singer . As a film producer , he has been one of the founders of regular Greenlandic film production since 2009.

life and work

Malik Kleist is the son of the civil servant Kaj Kleist (* 1943) and his wife Else Hansen (* 1950). His older brother is the badminton player Mininnguaq Kleist (* 1973). He has been interested in films since childhood. At the age of 14 he bought his first camera and made short films with his friends. In 1998 he worked as assistant to the lighting and sound engineer for a professional film team that shot the film Sinilluarit ("Sleep Well") with director Inuk Silis-Høegh . He was temporarily a member of the band Chilly Friday .

In 2000 he began studying at the media school in Viborg ( Denmark ). During his training he took on a role in the film Eskimo Weekend in 2001 , on whose soundtrack he also participated. In 2004 he completed his training and worked for five years as a cameraman , lighting technician, sound engineer, editor and later co-producer of the show for young people Sofa aappalaartoq (“The red sofa”) and later for the show Inuusuttut silarsuaat (“The world of youth "). He left television in 2009 and started his own production company Tumit with Aka Hansen . In the same year he worked as a co-author on the screenplay for the film Hinarik Sinnattunilu ("Hinarik and his dreams") and as a cameraman and editor. He wrote the script for the horror thriller Qaqqat Alanngui ("The Shadows of the Mountains"; 2011), which he also directed and sometimes worked with amateur actors. He recorded the song Qivittorsuup Tigummanga ("When the great hermit took me") for the film, which was shot with a budget of only 2.1 million DKK (approx. 280,000 euros) . The band Nanook also contributed two titles.
