Mallet is an impact crater in the rocky and rugged southeast quadrant on the front of the moon . It lies on the edge of a straight valley called Vallis Rheita . Young crater lies to the northwest on the other side of the valley .

Due to its age, the outer edge of the mallet is worn and rounded from erosion and subsequent impacts. The satellite crater 'Mallet A' occupies the southwest quarter of the crater interior. Only a few kilometers away, 'Mallet B' extends almost into the outer surroundings. The Rheita Valley crosses the northeastern area of the crater rim and forms an almost straight slope along the outer rim. A small impact near the inner north wall marks the crater floor.
