History and architecture

Figure of Mary with child on the southeast facade

The umgräftete baroque estate with mansion is surrounded by a stone wall framed and was from the family Mallinckrodt used. The complex includes a small garden and a pavilion . The stately half-timbered building on a massive base was built from 1668 to 1684 on the foundations of a previous building. It is covered with a hipped roof. In 1878 it was extended to the south across the moat. In the same year the two-sided flight of stairs was created. Inside, the building has been redesigned several times for teaching purposes. The baroque figure of Mary with child on the south-east facade is remarkable.

The castle served as an economic school for women for a long time and was affiliated to the Reifensteiner Verband since 1912. The owner was the Gesellschaft für Landwirtschaftliche Frauenbildung GmbH in Nordborchen. From 1942 it was run as the Provincial Rural Women's School in Nordborchen, from 1970 as the Mallinckrodthof women's training institute, later: Mallinckrodthof vocational college, occupational field nutrition and housekeeping. The building now houses a wedding room from the Borchen registry office and the "Genusswerkstatt" café and restaurant. Furthermore, the adult education center, the shopping cart, the consortium and associations from Borchen use some of the rooms.
