Mame Bineta Sané (* 2000 in Senegal ) is a Senegalese amateur actress .

Life

Sané grew up with five older siblings in Thiaroye sur Mer , a suburb of Dakar . She did not receive a regular school education, but dreamed of becoming a model. Sané began an apprenticeship as a tailor. In January 2018 she was discovered on the street of Thiaroye by director Mati Diop , who was looking for a leading actress for her debut feature film, Atlantique . At the time, Sané had no acting experience and had never entered a cinema.

After three workshops, Diop cast Sané in the lead role of Ada. The filming of Atlantique lasted around seven weeks and took place in Dakar. Sané, who only speaks Wolof , is listed in the credits of the film under the name "Mama Sané". For her portrayal of Ada, she received a César nomination for Best Young Actress in 2020 and was nominated for a Prix ​​Lumières as Best Young Actress.
